Perhaps that recent proximity to death is why they hold their wrist protectively, and the eye of their silhouette weeps, feathers bedraggled and damaged. Kuras however, liked and hated by Ais and Vere respectively, is Mhin’s one friend and someone who apparently saved their life not so long ago.īut even with that friendship, Mhin is scared to trust the angel, afraid of being hurt. They don’t however appear to truly hate Leander, moreso finding him annoying while Leander enjoys flustering them (□), and it is from him that they get their hunting work. They are particularly annoyed by the charm and popularity Ais has and exudes, which underscores their own outsider status. Mhin hates Vere openly for his monstrous nature, and hates Ais equally for the same. The Senobium, Vere’s captors, are ranked as one of the things Mhin likes. Jostling with Vere for top spot on the “I hate everyone” list is Mhin, the “cursed outsider” and a hunter like Vere but one who was perhaps not forced into that role. Whether a bound fox or bound Coyote, we perhaps can’t blame him for his bite. The untrustworthy are often distrustful, but could it be that Vere sees the others more clearly for who they truly are?Īnd he alone is the only (visibly) bound member of the cast, the “chained charlatan” having been forced into obedience long ago by the Senobium, an academic institute with authority over the decaying world of Eridia. He despises the angel, hates Mhin with a passion, and loathes Leander for hiding behind a good guy façade. Vere has the most negative relationships of all the characters, with only Ais receiving his friendship and perhaps more, if Vere’s jealousy of the other’s pets is any indication… It is fitting then that the chains in the silhouette, the ones that still bind him in reality, here appear loose and unbinding □ The grinning teeth of his silhouette though also remind me of Coyote, the great trickster, who is a symbol of both trickery and transformation, and in some eyes that of a promethean healer, who brings hope to humanity against the wishes of their gods. The most overtly monstrous of the group, with ears and tail indicating his less than human nature, Vere is upfront about how untrustworthy he is, with many a sly fox metaphor thrown in his description. While I’m sure it will be possible to romance either solely, I get the sense there will be a double romance available here □ His relationship with Vere is revealing, as apparently he has caught feelings for the mischievous beast. His emotions rule him, yet Ais is a likeable charmer, with only Mhin really taking a dislike to him, mostly because of how likeable he is.Īis “will not hesitate” to put Leander in his place when the time comes, which begs the question, is he more powerful than the other, or does Leander somehow fall within the cohort that Ais specifically has power over… In his silhouette, the tattoo almost seems a living breathing thing, strangling him with power, ready to drag him down into the depths…Ī former leader, master of soulless pets that he spoils, and in a friends with benefits relationship with Vere, this demon with “borrowed powers” may well once have been a man who became possessed by that whose power he evoked… Or he has ever been a demon, who got in way over his head by following an eldritch god. He has a pact with an ancient eldritch being, doubtless responsible for the tentacles in his silhouette and the tattoo on his right arm. Described as a “demon renegade” there is a little more going on here than meets the eye - hence the lack of confirmed identity.
